Jim has great leadership skills, as he was the drum major in high school and is currently a leading consultant in water management. Jim has worked with several municipalities in South Florida. They trust his opinion with the lives of the residents of Broward County, as Jim makes recommendations on the water that the population drinks daily. Jim has had a very successful career and is an avid supporter of the Band of the Hour, attending all home Hurricane football games since 1982. Jim also supports the band at other events, including basketball games and bowl games. He is a Hurricane Club member, supporting both Hurricane athletics and the band program.
Barbara graduated from the University of Miami with a degree in Music Therapy. She went on to work for the United Cerebral Palsy School in Miami for several years, where she served as a music therapist. Barbara helped hundreds of children get better with the use of music therapy. Barbara wroite her own compositions targeted for use in the classroom. She also used her guitar to sing to the students during music therapy sessions. Barbara did whatever it took to make the children better. She was later promoted to principal of the school. Barbara has shown her dedication to the band as a member of the Band of the Hour, following that up with many years of playing the flute in the Greater Miami Symphonic Band.
Jim and Barbara Penkosky first met on the marching band field at the University of Miami. Both were active members of the BOTH and members of Gamma Epsilon, Tau Beta Sigma Honorary Band Sorority.
